The Freedom of Flight

Text Box: Experience the joy of your first flight—the easy, fast, and safe way.

All you need is the spirit of adventure and the ability to jog 30 feet for takeoff.*

A paraglider is half parachute and half glider. Its simple canopy design consists of a set of closely spaced parallel tubular nylon pockets, called cells. And it is easy too!

We use state of the art tandem gliders specially built for two. Our tandem flights consist of a short briefing prior to flight.

Text Box:
Text Box: All you need to do is get to the top of a hill, get strapped in to a harness safely connected to your instructor, and run forward a few steps. Then you can sit back and relax—your instructor does all the work. As your instructor controls the steering lines and pulls on the risers, you will feel your feet lift off the ground as you begin to soar like a bird.

The following clothing is recommended.

*Protective footwear, no open toe shoes
*Pants, jeans are great
*Warm clothing layers and a Jacket
*Warm gloves
*Sun Glasses
*You may bring a compact camera if you wish.

Text Box:

Once you are soaring, the pilot can easily talk to you and explain how to control the paraglider. If the conditions are right and you are willing, the pilot can turn the controls over and let you experience what it is like to fly an unpowered craft.

Bring your camera because this is an experience you will not forget!

Whether you are an avid enthusiast, beginner, or just interested in being piloted as a tandem passenger, you will most assuredly have the experience of a lifetime!

*Tandem passenger weight cannot exceed 240 lbs.

The length of the actual flight depends on flight conditions. The whole process (paperwork, launch preparation, flight, landing, and packing up) may take between 1 to 2 hours and is weather dependent.

Kelly Davis is a certified tandem pilot and holds a Master Rating from the United States Hang Gliding and Paragliding Association (USHPA). Kelly also serves as an Administrator of Instructors for USHPA.

Tandem flight can be enjoyed by anyone under 210 pounds of any age with no prior experience necessary. Minors need to be accompanied by an adult.

We use a larger canopy designed to carry the weight of two people. Each person has their own harness, and the passenger and instructor are connected together with spreader bars. The Tandem instructor sits in the back and the passenger sits in front. We organize our equipment and do a simulation before our actual launch. The instructor double checks your buckles and straps, clips you in, and we turn and wait for a nice launch cycle.

When the wind is right we build energy by running together as the wing comes overhead into the flying position. We run with the wing as we are lifted of the ground, up, up, and away! The flight time is dependent  on the conditions and your karma.

The passenger is flying in the front seat exposed to the wind. The temperature at altitude may be quite cold even though the surface temperature is warm. It's best to prepare for cold by bringing multiple layers. Your instructor can brief you on the expected temperature at altitude the morning of the flight.
